Board of Trustees

The Bandera Independent School District is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees that is responsible for adopting policy, employing and evaluating the superintendent, approving the budget, approving capital improvement plans, and setting the tax rate.  As the district’s elected leaders, Trustees are charged with making decisions they believe to be in the best interest of all BISD students.  A majority of the Board constitutes a quorum for the transaction of business.

The Bandera ISD Board of Trustees meet monthly in regular meetings on the second Monday of the month. They may also meet in called meetings for workshops, retreats, public hearings or to handle routine business. Meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. in the Boardroom at the Administration Office located at 815 Pecan unless otherwise posted.  Meetings are open to the public. Citizens are invited to attend board meetings. The Texas Open Meetings Law prohibits the Board from taking action on any item not on the official agenda. Citizens wishing to speak to the Board must register prior to the start of the meeting.  Five minutes per person are allowed for presentations. Any group of five or more persons must appoint one person to represent the group’s views to the Board.  Written statements may also be provided. The time limit is necessary to provide citizens an opportunity to give input while allowing adequate time for Board business.

Concerns or complaints regarding specific individuals should not be raised in public form; they must be considered separately according to applicable board policies.  The Board has adopted complaint policies that are designed to secure, at the lowest possible administrative level, a prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and concerns.

Agenda items are posted at the BISD Administration Office at least 72 hours prior to each meeting and on the BISD website (www.banderaisd.net).  Agendas are also mailed to the local media.

Within the limits of the Texas Open Meetings Law, parts of the Board meeting may be closed to the public (Closed Session) so the Board may consider real estate transactions, personnel matters, student hearings and other legal matters.  All actions on items considered during Closed Sessions must be acted upon when they reconvene in open meeting.
