Becoming a School Bus Driver in Texas
To become a school bus driver in the state of Texas you must:
- Apply online with Bandera ISD under the support staff as a bus driver position
- Transportation will schedule an appointment with you to come in and interview
- Transportation will need a copy of your driver's license to run a State license check
- Transportation will run a criminal history check
- Obtain a class B CDL Driver’s License a with P-passenger and S-school bus endorsements
- Obtain a commercial driver’s license study guide by accessing it online at:

- Study sections 1,2,3,4,5,10,11,12,13, and 14 in the commercial license study guide
- Once you are ready, go test at your local Department of Motor Vehicles
- Once your written exam is passed, give transportation your receipt and you will be reimbursed
- Must pass a DOT physical annually and a pre-employment drug test (scheduled by Bandera ISD Transportation Department)
- Must pass the Entry Level Driver Training skill test (paid training will be provided)

- Must participate and pass a 20 hour Texas School Bus Driver Certification Class, which will be scheduled by Bandera ISD Transportation Office
- Texas School Bus Driver recertification class must be completed every 3 years, 8 hour course
- Must be CPR certified (training offered through transportation)
- Must maintain a good driving record as set forth by the Texas Department of Public Safety
- All training is paid for up-front by Bandera ISD
- All tests are paid for by Bandera ISD once they are completed and passed
