  • Teaching Students to Be Safe
The month of October contains a number of recognition weeks which all surround student safety. Bandera ISD Schools will focus on this important instructional theme through a variety of activities.  October 8-10 is Fire Prevention Week. Schools will be talking with students about fire prevention and being safe at home and school.   The elementary schools always enjoy the presentations given by our local fire and emergency rescue teams. This year’s focus is reminding every household to have a home escape plan with two ways out.

National School Bus Safety Week is celebrated during the third week of the month, October 16-20, to remind all students of the best ways to get on and off the bus, and safe riding rules in an effort to enhance the safety of the riders.  Bandera ISD’s buses travel 2200 miles a day in regular routes, transporting 1300 students to and from school. Another 102,847 miles a year are driven taking students to extracurricular events. School buses meet higher construction specifications and inspection standards than any other vehicle. School bus drivers meet higher qualification, training, and testing standards than any other drivers.  National School Bus Safety Week recognizes the hard work and dedication of school transportation personnel, especially the many school bus drivers who ensure our students a safe journey each and every day.

The final week of the month is Red Ribbon Week, October 23 - 31.  This annual event is highlighted by the activities that focus on the development of positive student attitudes while providing educational information on drug awareness. It is always important to remember that student safety is not only a school initiative, but a community wide goal. When our schools partner with parents and community groups, we send a strong message that our community cares about the well-being of its children. Please join us in focusing on student safety during the month of October.
