Students Receive Hunter’s Education Certification
Bandera, Texas
● November 13, 2009
Over the past few weeks,
students in Bandera High School’s Wildlife and
Agriculture students began taking a Hunter’s Education
course to receive their Hunter’s Education
Certification. In order for students to receive the
certification, they were required to complete a total of
10 hours classroom instruction, practice using a firearm
safely, and pass the Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunter’s
Education 50 Question Exam. For over five weeks, the
students were taught proper Gun Safety, Texas Parks and
Wildlife Game Laws, Hunting Ethics, and Wildlife Species
Identification. This unique course was taught by BHS
Agriculture Science Teacher Katie Childers. Childers
received her Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunter’s Education
Instructor Licenses during this past summer. Mrs.
Childers and her students, accompanied by BHS Assistant
Principal Richard Joyer and Superintendent Dr. Kevin
Dyes, went to the Bandera Gun Club to receive hands on
experience with proper gun safety. Each student had the
opportunity to shoot a .22 caliber rifle for target
practice, and use a 12-gauge shotgun to experience
shooting skeet.
