Grade Team Earn District Co-Champ Title
Bandera, Texas
● November 13, 2009
Bandera 8th grade "A" team defeated the Lytle Pirates
26-0 to earn the title of District Co-Champs. Despite
players ranks decimated by injuries and grades the team
finished its season with 5 wins and 3 losses. In
Thursday night's game against Lytle the opening kickoff
was fielded by Lucas Taulli who gave Bandera excellent
field position with a good return. A short drive was
topped off with a 40 yard run by Caleb Beauchamp. The
conversion failed. Beauchamp scored the second touchdown
of the half with a 12 yard run ending the half with the
score 12-0. Defense was the key to the second half. An
interception by Jonathan Stoufflet included a return of
40 yards and set up a Beauchamp 38 yard run through a
huge hole opened up by the offensive line consisting of
Brett Dusek, Jacob Tarr, Chris Toenes, Lucas Taulli,
Izzy Olivares, and Brent Ahrens. Reed Blake held his
block downfield allowing Beauchamp to cross the goal
untouched. A fumble caused by Izzy Olivares began the
next drive. With 4th and 5 a pass reception by Stoufflet followed
by a run to the 15 set the stage for Bryce Dowda to bull
his way into the end zone for the final touchdown. It
was capped by Ethan Grevan's run for the added two
points. The night came to an end as Caleb Beaucham
intercepted a Pirate pass and the ensuing drive was
ended by time running out on the clock.
The
Bandera 8th grade "B" team ended their season with a
12-6 loss to the Lytle Pirates. Mistakes and fumbles
cost us the district title and a great 4-1-1 season
record ended with Bandera in second place. A fumble
recovery and a drive to the 15 yard line with hard
running by Jonathan Raitz and Joe Reeves was ended by a
Bandera fumble on the handoff. A long run by the Lytle
halfback closed the first half with the score 6-0. The
second half opened with a drive to Lytle's 35 yard line
aided by blocking back Greg Macias great effort. Another
fumble turned the ball over to the Pirates who
capitalized on the mistake and put another 6 points on
the board. Determined to fight back, a drive behind
offensive lineman Josh Lundquist, Ryeth Rasmussen,
Julian Valdovinaos, Hunter Copeland, Scott Pofahl, and
Austin Hornung put 6 points on the board with 1:37 to go
ending the season for the Bulldogs.
