Bandera ISD Earns State’s Highest Financial Rating
Bandera, Texas
● October 16, 2009
Bandera
Independent School District officials announced that the
district received a rating of “Superior Achievement”
under Texas’ Schools FIRST financial accountability
ratings system. The Superior Achievement rating is the
state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of Bandera
ISD’s financial management and reporting system. This is
the seventh consecutive year that the district has
received a “Superior” rating.
The Schools FIRST
(Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas)
accountability system for Texas school districts was
developed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in response to Senate Bill
875 of the 76th
Texas Legislature in 1999. The primary goal of Schools
FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the
management of school districts’ financial resources, a
goal made more significant due to the complexity of
accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system.
“This confirms
that our district is making the most of our taxpayers’
dollars,” said Bandera ISD Superintendent Dr. Kevin
Dyes. “We are also pleased because Superior Achievement
rating shows that our schools are accountable not only
for student learning, but also for achieving these
results cost-effectively and efficiently.”
To arrive at the
Schools FIRST ratings, the TEA looks at 24 different
indicators, including: cost ratios, student to teacher
ratios, fund balance information, operating
expenditures, tax collections, and annual financial
reports. This year’s rating is based upon an analysis of
staff and student data reported for the 2007-2008 school
year and the budgetary and actual financial data for the
2008 fiscal year.
