Runners Do Well At UTSA Cross Country Meet

Bandera, Texas ● September 24, 2009

Despite not having a single member of the cross country team run in a meet since the Uvalde Coyote Invitational Cross Country Meet # 1 on September 3rd, the Bandera Bulldog and Lady Bulldog cross country runners competed well at the UTSA Ricardo Romo Cross Country Meet in San Antonio on September 19th. For several of the Bandera High School cross country team members, the UTSA Ricardo Romo Invitational Cross Country Meet was their first meet competition of the 2009 cross country season, while several others had to miss the UTSA Ricardo Romo Invitational Cross Country Meet due to injury or illness.

For the boys, senior Chris Mallory (56) and freshman Cody Tuma (64) finished in the top half of the field of 154 runners competing in the Class 3-A Varsity Boy Division, while sophomore Zach Chelin finished 35th or in the top 15% of the field of 295 runners in the Class 1A-5A Junior Varsity Boy Division. Freshman Matthew Halloran and junior Antonio Morales also represented the Bandera Bulldogs in the Class 3-A Varsity Boy Division.

For the girls, junior Aimee Denham captured the 3rd place trophy in the Class 3-A Varsity Girl Division, while freshman Sara Herrera finished 22nd in the same division, only 2 places away from capturing an individual trophy.  Freshman McKenna Mangold (35), sophomore Elizabeth Elizondo (38), and junior Kaylee Reeves (39) finished in the top 30% of the field of 135 runners in the Class 3-A Varsity Girl Division, while freshman Crystal Moreland (65) finished the top half of the same field of runners.  The other runners representing the varsity Bandera Lady Bulldogs were junior Shelbie Martin, freshman Kasandra Cruz, sophomore Brandi Robinson, and freshman Emma Williams. Running  in the Class A-5A Junior Varsity Girl Division were junior Gianna Canales, junior Molly Frost, and freshman Emily Frost.  As a team the varsity Lady Bulldogs finished 4th of 15 teams in the Class 3-A Varsity Girl Division, only one point away from being the first Bandera Lady Bulldog team to ever earn a spot on the awards stand at a UTSARicardo Romo Cross Country Meet.

Over the next two weeks, the Bandera High School team, as well as the Bandera Middle School team, will enter two extremely competitive cross country meets. The first of these two meets will be the Llano Yellow Jacket Invitational Cross Country Meet on September 19th. Then, on October 3rd, the Bandera High School and Bandera Middle School teams will compete at the McNeil Invitational Cross Country Meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
