SOMETHING TO BARK
ABOUT!
Bandera, Texas
● July 10, 2009
“Something to
bark about …” is a communications tool created by the
Bandera ISD Communications Office to share the good news
the community needs to know about the district. Bandera
ISD has a lot to “bark” about. Here is the good news we
shared this past week.
-
Did you know that the
Rural Technology Grant that Bandera ISD received
last year allowed the district to develop an after
school based program designed to improve grades and
serve individual academic needs. The program served
192 high school students and 110 middle school
students during the 2008-2009 school year.
-
Did you know that the
Bandera ISD Board of Trustees joined local trustees
from across the state at the Texas Association of
School Board’s (TASB) Summer Leadership Institute in
San Antonio. More than 2,300 new and veteran school
leaders received in-depth training on every facet of
effective board governance. The Bandera ISD trustees
heard keynote addresses from renowned education
experts, and gathered valuable information on topics
such as college readiness, emergency management,
federal stimulus package, school finance, teacher
retention, and more.
-
Did you know that
Bandera ISD will be celebrating their 75th
Anniversary during the upcoming 2009-2010 school
year. Although photos and documents record the
existence of public schools in Bandera County during
the late 1800’s, it was on April 1st in 1935 that
the Board of Trustees of Bandera School District #1
met and organized themselves as an entity. J.F.
Langford was named President and A. Meadows was
named Secretary of that first historical board. The
community can help us celebrate by submitting
photos, stories, or any other memorabilia to help us
document the success of our district over the years.
If you would like to be a part of Bandera ISD’s
“History Project”, contact the Communications Office
at (830) 796-6204 or send an e-mail to
communications@banderaisd.net.
-
Did you know that even
though our students and teachers are enjoying some
relaxation this summer, there is no break for the
hard working men and women in Bandera ISD’s
Custodial Department. Before school begins, the
custodial staff will be cleaning and waxing over
441,000 square feet of floors to make our campuses
and buildings look great.
