Basketball Update
Bandera, Texas
● December 11, 2009
It’s basketball season,
and the Bulldogs are off and running. The Bandera boy’s
junior varsity has played five games so far, and are 4-1
after the Bandera tournament. After defeating Hondo in
the season opener, the Bulldogs traveled to Pleasanton
to do battle with the Eagles. After a 14-14 first
quarter, the running Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 44-26
in the next three quarter to win the game 58-40. With
two wins under their belts the Bulldogs went into their
tournament with high expectations. The first opponent
was Hondo. Out scoring the Owls in every quarter, the
dogs went on to defeat the Owls 58-35. Game two pit the
Bulldogs against new district opponent Canyon Lake.
Coming out a bit slowly, the Dogs found themselves
trailing after the first quarter 7-3. By half time the
Dogs had managed to take a slim lead into the locker
room. Canyon Lake owned a one point lead at the end of
the third quarter, but the Dogs out scored them 22-11 in
the final seven minutes for the victory. In the
championship game, Bandera met the defending tournament
champions, the Antonian Apaches. The Dogs came out of
the gates early with an 11-8 first quarter lead.
Antonian came out on fire the second quarter outscoring
the Dogs 19-9, taking a 7 point lead into the half. The
Apaches built their lead to 11 during the third quarter.
The Dogs came out fighting in the fourth quarter,
clawing their way back to within 3 points. In the last
few minutes of the fourth quarter, the apaches made key
free throws, and the Dogs saw their first loss of the
season 43-50. It was a great tournament, and we are
extremely proud of the way our boys played.
