CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS MAKE ALL DISTRICT
TEAM

Each year
every Cross Country team in Texas starts with the desire
to advance beyond the district meet and with the hope
that the team will be good enough to reach the U.I.L.
State Cross Country. For most Cross Country teams, the
season unfortunately ends at the district level, and for
all but twelve teams in Class AAA, the end takes place
at the regional level. Bandera High School is able to
take pride in the fact that both the boys and girls
Cross Country teams did advance to the regional level in
2007; however, Bandera Independent School District can
take even greater pride in the fact that twelve of the
student-athletes, who were either seniors or who were
listed on the varsity roster for the U.I.L. Region IV
Cross Country Meet, earned District 25-AAA Cross Country
Academic All-District.
To qualify for the
District 25-AAA Cross Country Academic All-District
Team, a student-athlete must be a varsity team member
and maintain an overall 90 or above average through the
first two six weeks of the school year. The average
does not include athletics or local credit classes.
For the Bandera Bulldogs,
Drew Whitehead was the only senior boy to earn academic
all-district recognition. Joining Drew on the District
25-AAA Cross Country Academic All-District Team were two
sophomores and two freshmen. The two sophomore boys
were Chris Mallory and Sean Scott, and the two freshmen
boys were Matthew Mallory and Thomas Martinez.
The Lady Bulldogs, like
their male counterparts, had one senior girl earn
academic all-district recognition. That senior girl was
Kaitlyn Correll. Lady Bulldog junior representatives
on the District 25-AAA Cross Country Academic
All-District Team were Nikole Gase and Rachael Madison.
Taking tops honors with four girls on the academic
all-district team were the freshmen girls. Freshmen
girls who earned District 25-AAA Cross Country Academic
All-District recognition were Aimee Denham, Cassidy Gase,
Cassie Lutz, and Shelbie Martin.
In addition to earning
District 25-AAA Cross Academic All-District honors,
Kaitlyn Correll earned a spot on the Texas Girls Coaches
Association Class AAA Cross Country Academic All-State
Team. This was the third year in a row for at least one
Bandera Lady Bulldog to be recognized on the T.G.C.A.
Class AAA Cross Country Academic All-State Team. To
earn a spot on the all-state team, the student-athlete
must be a senior, a varsity team member, and have
maintained an overall adjusted average of 94 or above
from her freshmen year through the first six weeks of
her senior year.
Two of the Bandera High
School student-athletes who earned academic all-district
recognition, also, earned a spot on the District 25-AAA
Cross Country All-District Team. Those two
student-athletes were sophomore Sean Scott and freshman
Aimee Denham. Senior Katie Miller earned a spot on the
District 25-AAA Cross Country All-District Team, as
well.
Bandera should be
extremely proud of the fact that both the Bulldogs and
Lady Bulldogs earned their way to the U.I.L. Region IV
Cross Country Meet during the 2007 season, but Bandera
should take even greater pride in the fact that thirteen
student-athletes gained individual District 25-AAA
recognition, with twelve of those student-athletes
earning that recognition by meeting the criteria to earn
a place on the District 25-AAA Cross Country Academic
All-District Team. When twelve of the twenty-one
possible candidates for academic recognition actually
earn a place on an academic all-district team, the
student-athletes in that sport are doing an excellent
job combining athletics with academics.
