BHS GOLFERS SHOOT LOW IN REGIONALS
by Jeff

Bandera, Texas
● April 26, 2006
Junior Robert
Canales represented the Bandera Boys Golf team at the
region 4 golf tournament in Corpus Christi Monday and
Tuesday. Robert qualified for regionals by taking fourth
place at the District tournament on March 31st
& April 2nd. Robert played the tough Oso
Beach Golf Course shooting an 86 on Monday followed by
another 86 on Tuesday. His 172 total placed him near the
middle of a very competitive field of over 70 golfers.
“Roberts consistent practice habits served him well this
year. He was by far the most consistent golfer on the
boys team.” Jeff Jackson BHS Golf Coach
Representing
the girls were junior Katlynd Imbody, and sophomore Lucy
Rivera. These two repeated as District Champion and
runner up for the second year in a row when Lucy beat
out Katlynd by four strokes over 36 holes. At the
regional tournament Katlynd shot an 86 and an 88 to
finish in 6th place. Lucy shot an 87 and an
83 to tie for fourth place and possibly a trip to the
state golf tournament. The tie was broken by extra holes
in a sudden death playoff. Lucy lost on the second hole
of the playoff finishing 5th out of over 70
girls in this particular tournament. She missed out on a
trip to play in the state tournament by a single stroke.
“This is even more amazing feat if you realize these 70
golfers at this level are the best of over a thousand
golfers who played at the district level in this region.
5th and 6th place out of that many
is quite an accomplishment. I couldn’t be more proud of
these girls!” Jeff Jackson
As the high
school season winds to a close it is important to the
BHS golfers that they recognize a few people who have
helped them this year. First of all the pros at the
Flying L, Mickey Davis and Joe Skines have given much of
their time and patience to helping these kids and so
many other junior golfers in Bandera County we all our
them a debt of gratitude. Also John Junker has been a
long-time supporter of youth golf in Bandera and his
help has been instrumental for these kids. These kids
would also specifically like to thank their teachers.
Many teachers have put in extra effort helping kids get
their work ahead of time and make up work when they
returned from the numerous tournaments throughout the
year. These kids know that without these academic
teachers help they would not have been able to
accomplish all that they did this year.
