BANDERA BULLDOGS TO HOST HOMERUN DERBY

The Bandera HS
Baseball team would like to invite the community to
their third annual Homerun Derby Competition Fundraiser
this Saturday, February 9th from 10:00 AM
until 4:00 PM and the following Saturday, February 16th
for the 1st annual Alumni Baseball game to
begin at 6 p.m.
This year's
Homerun derby and hitting contest will feature the
Freshmen vs. the Sophomores from 10:00 AM – Noon. The
players will get 10 "live" swings and compete for
T-shirt prizes for events like: "longest ball," "most
points," and "most Homeruns." Players also compete for
sponsors, as each sponsor gets registered fro various
prizes drawn during the all day event. Prizes include
cash, caps and T-shirts and other donated merchandise.
This year the
public is invited to participate from Noon to 2:00 PM.
There will be three other baseball skills competitions
during that time including: an "accuracy throwing
contest" in which participants throw into targets, a
"Fastest ball contest" in which players throw and their
velocity is recorded by a Professional Radar Gun, and a
"Batting contest" in which Targets are set out in
locations on the field and hitters win prizes by hitting
those targets. Each competition is divided into five age
groupings: 8 years and under, 9-11 year olds, 12-14
years old, High School (grades 9-12), and adult (over 18
years of age). The "adult" group can also compete in a
Homerun contest that will pay $10 for every homerun hit
out of the park. Contestants can pay $10 for any event
entered or purchase an "All Event Pass" for $25. All
competitions entitle each contestant to 10 attempts
(throws or swings...contestants may use batting tees,
have BHS coaches throw live pitch or bring their own
"personal pitcher").
The Alumni
game on February 16th is open to any adult
that graduated from Bandera High School regardless of
whether or not they participated in the baseball program
or not. There will be a "Play for Pay" Homerun Derby
Contest for the Alumni beginning at 4:00 PM. For a $10
entry fee contestants will participate for cash prizes.
Each player gets 10 swings from his "personal pitcher"
and can win $10 cash for every homerun he hits and can
earn prizes during the contest by hitting targets
strategically placed around the field. These two weekend
events are the Bandera High School Baseball team's only
Fundraiser for the year and will usher in the 2008
season.
