100% of Bandera ISD Schools Are AYP OK!

Once again, Bandera ISD has met the “Adequate Yearly Progress” or AYP standards established by the federal government under the No Child Left Behind Act. In addition, 100% of the district’s schools also met the rigorous AYP criteria. Statewide, 75% of the schools met the accountability standards. The AYP system imposes sanctions on schools and districts that miss AYP for the same reason for two or more years in a row. No schools in Bandera ISD fell into this category.

The federal evaluations for AYP include: graduation rates for high schools and districts, attendance rates for elementary schools, and participation and passing rates on state tests for grades 3-8 and 10. The federal AYP system is different from the Texas Education Agency’s accountability system that rates schools either Exemplary, Recognized, Acceptable, or Not-Acceptable. Bandera ISD has one Exemplary school – Hill Country Elementary; two Recognized schools – Alkek Elementary and Bandera Middle School; and one Acceptable school – Bandera High School.
