KSAT-12 Names Scholar Athletes

Joshua Leeper and Lamar Lewis were named as the “3A Football Scholar Athletes of the Week” by San Antonio television station KSAT, Channel 12. The two Bandera High School students recently taped a segment for The High School Extra show that will air on November 2nd. KSAT Sports Director Greg Simmons, presented Leeper and Lewis with a plaque honoring their accomplishments.

Josh Leeper is also is a member of Bandera High School’s Powerlifting team. His academic extracurricular activities include UIL Debate. He and his partner, Lamar Lewis, qualified for state last year and plan to do it again this year. Josh is also a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to be a math teacher and a coach.

Lamar Lewis is a member of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the senior class, and vice president of the UIL Academic team. He participates in UIL One Act Play, UIL Debate, and Poetry interpretation. Lamar plans be a history teacher and a coach.


Ranch Radio Honors Teacher of the Month

Bandera High School Science teacher received a surprise visit last week during his lunch period. Warren was named “Teacher of the Month” in a contest sponsored by Ranch Radio and the Kerrville Daily Times. Warren was nominated for this award by BHS student Sara Zavorka. On hand to present Mr. Warren with a plaque and prizes were Dick Fitch from the Kerrville Daily Times, J.D. Rose and Calamity Jane from Ranch Radio, BHS Principal Theresa Keel, and Sara Zavorka.


Key Club Meets Kiwanis Governor

The Kiwanis Club of Bandera County hosted Nancy Miller, incoming Governor for the Kiwanis Texas/Oklahoma District at a recent meeting. She will assume her duties on October 1st of this year. As one of 340 Kiwanis Clubs in the Texas/Oklahoma District, the Bandera Kiwanis club was very fortunate to have such a distinguished leader as their guest. The purpose that the Bandera Kiwanis strive to meet is the International Motto, “Serving the Children of the World,” especially right here in Bandera County.

There is an active Key Club at Bandera High School. Barbara Carter is the faculty sponsor. Bandera Middle School has an active Builders Club. Amy Kepp is the faculty sponsor. Plans are underway for beginning K-Kids in the elementary schools of Bandera ISD. Each school club is assisted by a member of the local Kiwanis Club.
