Bandera ISD Launches Hurricane Help

Bandera ISD has started a district wide campaign to help many individuals effected by Hurricane Ike. Beginning today and ending next week, each campus and Bandera ISD facility will be conducting a canned food drive to help those in need. Items that are needed include:

  • Canned foods such as soups, vegetables, meats, etc.

  • Packaged goods such as cereals, rice, beans, etc.

  • Pre-packaged snacks such as crackers, sausages, etc.

Anyone can donate at the following locations:

  • Alkek Elementary School - 1798 Hwy 173 South in Bandera

  • Hill Country Elementary School - 6346 FM 1283 in Pipe Creek

  • Bandera Middle School - 1005 Cherry Street in Bandera

  • Bandera High School - 474 Old San Antonio Hwy in Bandera

  • Bandera ISD Central Office - 815 Pecan Street in Bandera

  • Bandera ISD Support Facility - 1576 Hwy 173 South in Bandera

Ms. Fix-It First Class Focuses on Energy Efficiency

The Bandera ISD Office of Parent Involvement will once again be offering continuing education opportunities throughout September and October. Five Ms. Fix-It Classes are being presented with the first one “Energy Efficiency” beginning on September 17th.

The class will run from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM and be held in Portable Building #2 located at the Bandera ISD Central Office Complex on Pecan Street. Pre-registration is required – contact Tracy Thayer at 796-6300 for information. A registration fee of $10 includes supplies, snacks, and child care. The topics being presented in the Energy Efficiency class on September 17th include: Weather Stripping, Light Switch and Outlet Insulation, Foam Sleeves for Pipes, R Value of Attic Insulation, and more.

Other Ms. Fix-It Classes being offered at Bandera ISD include:

  • October 1 – Electrical

  • October 15 – Paint Preparation and Wallpaper Removal

  • October 29 – Tiling

  • November 12 – Road Safety

If you pre-register with Tracy Thayer (796-6300) for all five workshops, you will receive a 20% discount.


Free On-Line Family Center Classes

Information sessions using Bandera ISD’s Family Center will be held at all Bandera ISD Campuses starting at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, September 23rd. “It’s amazing how many features parents can access using our On-Line Family Center” explained Superintendent Dr. Kevin Dyes. “Our district is making it very easy for parents to stay involved in their child’s education on a daily basis”.

The information sessions will be led by participants in Bandera ISD’s Administrative Leadership Academy. Each session will cover topics including:

  • Checking your child’s grades

  • View students attendance

  • Setting up grade and attendance alerts

  • How to see what your child has been ordering in the cafeteria

  • How to add money to your student’s cafeteria account

  • Accessing Teacher Web Pages and Home Work Calendars

  • Using Campus Library web sites

  • and more.

Although there is no charge to attend this session, Bandera ISD is asking that parents pre-register by calling 796-6204 or e-mailing communications@banderaisd.net and providing their name and location they would like to attend (sessions will be held on 9/23 at Alkek Elementary, Hill Country Elementary, Bandera Middle School, and Bandera High School).
