Future Leaders Begin Intensive Training

Bandera ISD’s Administrative Leadership Academy met for their first session of the year last Thursday. Twelve future leaders began what will be a fourteen month program designed to support and develop a pipeline of possible administrative candidates for the district. Participants in the program meet monthly for a two hour session focusing on a new aspect of educational leadership. Each of the sessions allow the participants to learn more about the operations of the Bandera Independent School District.

During the inaugural session, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Dyes lead the first hour with a review of the groups assigned summer reading and an overview of the districts goals and objectives. For the second hour, the participants learned how the need for communications and public relations in the school industry has changed in a session lead by Brad Domitrovich. Using actual case studies - the participants learned how the media influences educational perception, examined who a school districts target market is, and discuss how administrators shape the attitude and face of a school district to the public.

Elementary teachers participating in the academy include: Laurie Davis, Shannon Grow, and Regina Hillis from Hill Country Elementary – Lillian Butcher, Susan McCullough, Alma McFarland, Adele Murphy, and Jennifer Stetler from Alkek Elementary. Secondary Teachers participating in the academy include: Kathy Jennings, Stephanie Jones, and Dixie Koiner from Bandera Middle School – Michele Barnet from Bandera High School.

Bandera ISD Tax Rate Remains the Same

The tax rate for Bandera ISD will not be changing after the Board of Trustees approved to retain the same rate at $1.23 per $100 valuation. The Board voted unanimously to keep the tax rate the same with no increase or decrease at their Regular Meeting held on September 9, 2008.

The tax rate adopted includes a Maintenance & Operations rate of $1.04 and an Interest & Sinking Fund rate of $.19. The Interest & Sinking Fund tax revenue is used to pay for bonded indebtedness on construction, equipment, or both. The bonds, and the tax rate necessary to pay those bonds, were previously approved by the voters of Bandera ISD.
