● August 26, 2008
A Bandera ISD
school bus was involved in a minor accident with a
passenger vehicle at approximately 3:50 PM on Tuesday,
August 26th. The accident occurred at the
intersection of State Highway 16 and Old San Antonio
Highway in Bandera. The bus was transporting students
from Bandera High School, Bandera Middle School, and
Alkek Elementary School. Following district protocol,
the bus driver notified the Transportation Department
office immediately by two way radio. First responders
arrived at the scene shortly thereafter.
Bandera County
EMS personnel examined the 20 riders that were on the
bus. None of the student bus riders reported injuries at
the scene of the accident to EMS personnel. Some of the
children were released to the custody of their parents,
and the remainder were transferred to another Bandera
ISD bus to be transported home.
Staff from the
Transportation Department contacted parents and
guardians of the students who were on board using the
telephone numbers available through the current records
in hand.
“I am very
proud of the way our bus driver handled the situation”,
stated Transportation Supervisor Mary Denson. “She was
calm and composed and took control of the situation
insuring that all the students were safe”. |
