Great Learning Opportunities for Parents

The Bandera ISD Parent Involvement Center will be offering several training opportunities over the next few weeks for parents to learn and get involved. If you are interested in any of the following sessions please call Tracy Thayer at (830) 796-6300 or e-mail to tthayer@banderaisd.net.

  • Computers for Parents – Computer course for novice adult users. Instructor Chris Louden will train you in the basics of computer operation through the use of very common programs for word processing, spreadsheet, Internet access, and data base. Enrollment is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Light dinner and child care provided. Six sessions on Monday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at the BISD Central Administration, Portable 2, 815 Pecan Street, Bandera. First class starts – March 23, 2009.

  • How to Appropriately Advocate for Your Child – This workshop will teach you how to effectively communicate with your child’s teacher and school. This workshop will show you how to navigate the school system to effectively handle concerns and questions about all facets of school service. Enrollment is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Light lunch and child care provided. Instructor Tracy Thayer is a former school principal and currently serves as Federal Programs Director. Four sessions on Wednesdays from 12:00 PM – 1:00 at Bandera ISD Central Administration starting on April 1.

  • Healthy Snacks for Kids – Learn how to select and prepare healthy after school snacks for your students. Focus will be on efficiency and economy of homemade after school snacks. Presenter will be Jennifer Chapman, BISD Food Service Director. Offered at Alkek Elementary Cafeteria from 9:15 - 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis.

  • Love and Logic for Parents (school age version) – Having trouble dealing with a teenager? Do you find it difficult to discipline your student? Love and Logic for Parents draws on time tested techniques designed to teach children problem solving skills through logical consequences to actions. Designed to help parents reduce stress and use small consequences to teach big lessons. Classes are from 11:00 – 1:00 PM six Fridays starting on April 3. Instructor is Yessenia Torres, Parent Involvement Liaison. Enrollment is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
