This briefing is a summary of action taken by the Bandera Independent School District Board of Trustees at their recent scheduled meeting. It is provided as a courtesy and not a requirement of the Texas Open Meetings Act. Bandera ISD Board Briefings – 2/10/09

Call to Order and Establish Quorum:

  • A meeting of the Bandera ISD Board of Trustees was held on February 10, 2009 at the Bandera ISD Central Office located at 815 Pecan Street in Bandera. Board President, Genevieve Modarelli called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. A quorum was established with Board Members Rick Groomer, Greg Hicks, Laurie Neff, Barbara Skipper, Lee Haile, Don Miller, and Genevieve Modarelli in attendance.

Pledge of Allegiance:

  • The Pledge of Allegiance to the United States and Texas flag was presented by Annie Fritz and Dylan Mayer both students from Hill Country Elementary School.

Recognition:

  • Brad Domitrovich, Bandera ISD Communications presented the recognition items to the Board which included: Annie Fritz and Dylan Mayer from Hill Country Elementary, were recognized as "Students of the Month" by Superintendent Dr. Kevin Dyes, Board President Genevieve Modarelli, and Principal Renee Cadena.

Consent Agenda:

The Board approved the Consent Agenda which included:

  • Approval of the minutes from January 13, 2009 Regular Board Meeting;

  • Budget Status Report;

  • Personnel Report;

    • Approval of Resignations, New Hires, and Superintendent's recommendation on Contract Extensions for Bandera ISD Campus and District Administrators;

  • Food Service Report.

Information:

  • Lisa White and Brian White addressed the Board during Citizen's Comments.

  • Dr. Kevin Dyes presented the Superintendent's Report which included:

    • District enrollment of 2,516 with an YTD ADA of 2,312 and an attendance rate of 95.3%.

    • Student activities including Academic Decathlon, Young Artists Month, Cross X Debate, All District Football, All State Football, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Track & Field, Skills USA, and more.

    • Energy Savings Guaranteed Contracts information.

    • Technology issues and opportunities.

    • Community Garden information.

    • 2009-2010 School Calendar update.

    • State Property Value Study information.

  • Ms. Modarelli announced the Board Member's Continuing Education Hours.

  • Dr. Dyes presented the Calendar for the May 9, 2009 Bandera ISD Trustee Election.

Regular Agenda:

  • The Board approved to enter into an Agreement with Toba Perez, Bandera County Elections Administrator, to conduct the May 9, 2009 School Trustee Election.

  • The Board approved action to Order the 2009 School Trustee Election.

  • The Board approved the Sale of Surplus Property (Vehicles).

Adjourn:

  • The meeting was adjourned at 7:23 PM.
