PSAT Testing Scheduled for October 14th

PSAT testing is scheduled for October 14, 2009 at Bandera High School. All Bandera ISD freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will participate in this year’s PSAT testing. The exam fee for Bandera ISD freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be paid by the district. In addition, Bandera Middle School students who have qualified for the Duke Talent Search Program will participate in PSAT testing.

PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test. It also gives students the opportunity to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarship programs. The PSAT/NMSQT measures: critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills. “PSAT testing is only one of the district’s initiatives in place in our College Readiness Plan”, stated Superintendent Dr. Kevin Dyes. “Taking the PSAT prepares our students and challenges them for the future”.

Home school students whose instructional levels are either Grade 9, 10, or 11 are eligible to take the PSAT at Bandera High School if they live within the Bandera ISD boundary. Interested parents of home school children should contact the Bandera High School Counseling Office at (830) 796-6269 for additional information on time and location.
