SCHOLARSHIPS

Welcome to our BHS Scholarship Webpage!

Need Money for College?  Here is your “Five-Point To Do List”

1.  Use the free scholarship search data base programs below such as FastWeb and any of the others also listed.  This will give you access to over 1.3 million different scholarships – You will set up your profile first, and then FastWeb will let you know what scholarships match your own personal needs and qualifications.

2.  Make sure your test scores are all they can be!  Go to www.collegeboard.com if you need to register for the SAT-1 Reasoning Test, and/or go to www.actstudent.org to register for the ACT plus Writing.  We recommend that students take both tests, and then retest if necessary to improve their score.  Most students will do better on one test or the other, and the best practice is to retest using your preferred test since colleges will accept either SAT or ACT scores.

3.  Apply for college - based, institutional scholarships.  Unless you are applying to a very small institution, you will need to apply for this type of scholarship online.  Go to the college website and click the financial aid or scholarship link to access their application and to see their deadlines.  To apply for this type of scholarship, you will need to apply for admissions first.

4.  Apply for need-based financial aid.  This will be aid in the form of grants, work-study, and low interest student loans.  You will need to wait until January 2012 (this tax year needs to come to a close) to apply, and you will apply for this type of aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov

5.  Apply for local scholarships.  These scholarships can be found on this webpage from February thorough April 2012.  Some examples are Bandera County Lions Club, Langford Memorial Scholarship, Doane Memorial Scholarship, and many other locally generated scholarships.  These scholarship applications can be picked up in the high school counseling office in the spring.
